SLS/SLES FREE

Sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) and the similar product SLES, is a detergent which is used to make a huge range of products clean, bubble and froth. These include shampoos, soaps, face and body washes, toothpaste, washing up & laundry detergents and also industrial cleansing chemicals such as engine degreasers.

Why are people choosing to avoid SLS/SLES?

A report published in the Journal of The American College of Toxicology in 1983 showed that concentrations as low as 0.5% could cause irritation.  And concentrations of 10-30% caused

• Skin corrosion

• Severe irritation

It also goes onto state that SLS was also linked with:

• Eye irritations and deformities in children

• Hormone imbalance

• Protein denaturing (disturbs the protein structure in our cells)

Why do cosmetic manufacturers still use them?

BECAUSE THEY ARE CHEAP, CONSUMERS HAVE BEEN DUPED  INTO BELIEVING NO FROTH MEANS NO CLEAN (not true!!!)

Friendly Soaps contain the naturally derived Glycerin which cleans skin beautifully, is mositurising & nourishing for the skin.  Better to make unique, interesting and naturally based soaps for bathtime fun than fill with loads of nasties to get the desired effect.

PARABEN FREE

Parabens are preservatives used as inhibitors of microbial growth and will help a product last longer on the shop shelf.

Why are people choosing to avoid Parabens?

The longer that the parabens are on the skin, the more opportunity there is for parabens to be absorbed. When used in skin care products, parabens are absorbed directly into the blood stream rather than through the gastrointestinal tract. Parabens have been linked to:

• Dermatitis

• Premature ageing of the skin

• Increase in oestrogen which can possibly affect the male and female reproductive organs.

• Some studies in men have shown that a low sperm count and a decrease in testosterone are directly related to the intake of parabens.

• Breast cancer

Why do cosmetic manufacturers still use them?

BECAUSE THEY ARE CHEAP AND MAKE THE PRODUCT LAST LONGER

Friendly Soaps do not have preservatives in so will not last for years and years.  It is recommended that you use the product within 2 months of purchase.  Better to use a product sooner than fill it with nasty stuff just to make it last a little longer….   

NOTE:  MANY Ezcema, asthma and allergy sufferers are now choosing to avoid SLS/SLES and Parabens as people are believing that it irritates their skin and their condition.  Friendly Soaps don’t dry the skin and don’t contain harsh chemicals which could irritate.
